Meitar’s Technology and Intellectual Property Group acts for clients in a variety of intellectual property and technology-related transactions, ranging from licenses, assignments and other agreements involving the development, commercialization and sale of intellectual property assets to strategic alliance and corporate partnering agreements.
We developed our expertise in technology matters together with the growth of Israel’s technology industry in the 1990s. For example, we have represented Amdocs, now one of the world’s largest suppliers of software to the telecom industry, since its inception as a small start-up. Our current clients range from early stage start-ups to large multinational corporations, covering such industries as software, hardware, e-commerce and internet, telecommunications, life sciences and cleantech.
Our technology group is headed by David Mirchin, former Vice President and General Counsel to SilverPlatter Information, an electronic publisher of reference databases, now part of Wolters Kluwer, and a leading international lecturer on e-commerce, internet law, and open-source software issues.
Dr. Yoav Oestreicher has primary responsibility for the firm’s IP Litigation Group. Dr. Oestreicher has been involved in many of the most important patent, trademark and copyright cases litigated in Israel in recent years, including infringement claims involving a wide variety of industries, such as pharmaceuticals, technology, bio-technology, chemistry, telecommunications and engineering, and the protection of the brand names of clients in different industries, such as food and beverages, agriculture and the Internet.
We believe that obtaining a clear understanding of our clients’ business objectives (and, where necessary, helping them to define these objectives) is essential to providing them with efficient legal services. Most of the attorneys in our technology group gained extensive experience with technology companies prior to joining the firm, in such fields as content creation and licensing, e-commerce, software development, digital printing and pre-press, electronic component development, manufacturing and distribution, mobile telephony, hardware peripherals, international telephone call carriers, recording media and pharmaceuticals.
” ‘Meitar is one of the leading commercial outfits in Israel and it maintains a strong IP litigation practice’. The business-savvy firm retains the loyalty of clients from a dizzying array of industries by dispensing creative, cut-to-purpose protection strategies. With many partners having been educated at leading US and UK universities, it has a finely grained understanding of legislation and case law in these countries. The worldly-wise Yoav Oestreicher is an enforcement expert who has turned heads in both Israeli and US courts, having practised law in New York and North Carolina.”
